Facts To Know Before Going To Your Local French Bulldog Breeders

By Lisa Snyder

You are probably interested in this article right now since you are looking for a pet in the form of a dog. Most likely someone has suggested that you visit any one of several French bulldog breeders in your area in Ohio to give yourself a chance of owning a great French bully as a pet. However, before you do fully commit yourself, take some time to read this article to get more information.

During the ancient Greek times, this breed was used for bull baiting, in which they fought bulls to the death. They were widely widespread throughout the continent of Europe via Phoenician trade routes during the height of the popularity of the sport. As the sport became outlawed later on, many of the remaining mastiffs were domesticated as household companions and pets.

The closest cousin of this dog is the English bulldog, for it does have very much similar features although it will have smaller ears that are erect all the time. Physically it has a more compact body and smaller legs, alongside a wider girth. It however lacks the alpha male tendencies of the English bulldog so it is safer to keep around smaller animals and even children.

This breed makes for great companions, but they do demand a lot of attention. In fact they will require almost one hundred percent of your attention most of the time. If they do not feel like they get the required attention they will ululate, which many owners will call the French death yodel. The females of this breed are also very protective of the young they take care of or anyone that they care about for that matter.

It is a breed that lives very well in small living quarters, such as can be found in urban type residences such as condominiums and city apartments. Going for long periods of time of just sitting around and chilling, they can be termed as the ultimate indoor pet. However, they must still be given their daily thirty minutes walk regularly.

It will have difficulty in regulating its internal body temperature as it has a snub nose coupled with a compact airway. As it also does have a thin coat of fur it will not do well in extreme cold or hot temperature, as it can die. Thus those living in extreme climates should not take on this breed as a pet.

As it gets older, this dog will develop retinal problems and have cataracts in their eyes. It also is not a very long lived breed, averaging only about eight to ten years maximum. However, this lifespan can be extended if proper nutrition and maintenance is followed.

Thus covered in this article is some good basic information that you need to know about this breed before taking it on. Remember that it takes a lot of commitment and responsibility in terms of taking on any pet and thus you should make sure in getting more information about it whenever possible. In getting all the needed information, you will not make the mistake of making a wrong decision.
