Vital Details About Newborn Circumcision

By Christopher Sullivan

Among the Islamic and Jewish religion followers, circumcision is rampant, and it entails the removal of the foreskin around the tip of a penis. Newborn circumcision is a surgery process that is widely embraced in the United States than Europe where the rate if 50 and 1 percent respectively. It is a practice that follows culture and religion doctrines, and this article tells you more about it.

There has been a lack of the necessity of this practice, and the decision to have it on babies is entirely left to the parents. The baby undergoes the surgery after a few days of birth, but before leaving the hospital for home. Notably, the procedure can take place when a person is at any age for medical reasons or self-willingness.

Other reason that necessitates circumcision includes peer pressure and medical benefits. Babies become safe from urinary tract infections after removal of foreskin from their penis, and the effect lasts for the first five years of their lives.

For the adults, the surgery keeps them safe from contracting penis cancer as well as other sexually transmitted diseases. The process is also a cleanliness procedure since it helps in keeping the genital area odor free and clean.

Those who criticize circumcision feel that the baby does not have to undergo the pain without any religious or medical reasons. They also assert that observing proper hygiene keeps one off sexually transmitted diseases as well as penis cancer.

In keeping the pain away during the cut, doctors apply anesthesia. The aftermath is not painful, and there is no need for a follow up on pain. Adults who suffer from anxiety after the cut are usually given Valium to reduce the effect.

Some of the forms of anesthesia that doctors use include creams and injections. The foreskin is then trimmed. Afterward, adults receive sutures while babies are given plastic rings that speed up healing and prevent bleeding.

Circumcision on adults is usually an outpatient activity, and they resume their daily routines few days after the procedure. However, they should not engage in sexual activity since it can rapture the suture. The itch that follows the procedure usually goes out in one or two days.

You should never worry about the negative effects of circumcision since they are not significant. There is usually a different look of the penis and scarring especially when the cut is done away from the glans. Never worry about infections and bleeding since they rarely occur.

After a surgery, babies are taken home to heal since no follow up is needed for the pain. All that is required after the baby goes home is cleaning the wound thrice in a day using water and mild soap. A keen observation is necessary to detect any development of an infection.

Adults and babies take ten days to heal after circumcision. The procedure is quick, and the related pain is quite low. An effect that lasts for a longer duration is the adjustment to the sensation feeling that comes after the foreskin is removed.
