The Best New Orleans Boutique Hotels

By Charles McDonald

Whether traveling for business, fun or on a honeymoon, there are a number of lodging options when it comes to the Crescent City. For example, New Orleans boutique hotels often have a lot to offer. For, while there are a number of corporate hotels in the area, most are located in business and financial sectors. Whereas, these smaller hotels are often located in prime tourist areas such as Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.

While some neighborhoods still need to be rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina, most establishments in the French Quarter, Garden District and Bourbon Street areas have been back in business for years. Whether a new traveler, or having visited the city before, these areas provide a great variety when it comes to bars, restaurants, entertainment and attractions. While there are numerous forms of transportation, the street cars and trolleys remain two of the most popular forms in the city.

Corporate hotels often have the highest rates per night while hostels are often the less expensive. Hostels, often costing a third of traditional hotels also have a lot to offer. For example, there is a laundry, kitchen, refrigerator, coffee maker and cooking utensils. In addition, there are often a number of pre-planned outings for which those traveling solo or in groups are welcome to attend.

Individuals, couples or families traveling on a shoe-string budget have numerous options. For, there are a number of KOA campgrounds, RV parks and other alternative options just outside the city. Whereas, many hostels also now allow well behaved children at the same nightly rate as parents. While this is an option, it should be noted that the options for children such as television, video games and the like are generally absent from most hostel environments.

When traveling alone, a youth hostel is often a great option. For, not only do hostels offer a full kitchen, refrigerator, laundry room, dorm or private room and lockers, there are often group outings. As such, those traveling alone looking to go out on the town can do so safely with a group of others rather than having to maneuver the city by oneself.

For those desiring a stay somewhere in between a corporate hotel, boutique hotel or hostel, a bed and breakfast can always suffice. Although, there are now even more options in this regard with new Air B&B offerings. For, unlike traditional bed and breakfast, these new locations allow individuals to take over a private home for the duration of a stay. With that being said, there is the lack of communing with other travelers over breakfast as with a traditional bed and breakfast.

When traveling to New Orleans for a festival or other event, it can often be good to stay nearby. Although, for those desiring to stay in the French Quarter, Garden District or other popular tourist area, there are often shuttles available for a nominal daily or multi-ride fee. While there are taxi-cabs and public transportation options available, these can often be quite costly in comparison.

Vacation packages are another option. These packages while often associated with an event can often be a convenient way to book a variety of attractions in one trip. Although, unless one plans on participating in all activities, attractions, events, festivals and other offerings, these can often be far more expensive than booking travel, lodging and purchasing tickets for various attractions, conferences, festivals or other events.
